The Seacoast Road Race Series

And Then There Were Four 2010 Seacoast Road Race Series Passes Halfway Point With Record Numbers
PORTSMOUTH, NH. August 16, 2010. Four down; four to go. As the 2010 Seacoast Road Race Series passes the halfway point, records will be broken. When registration closed for this year's Series at the York Days 5K on August 1st, a record 1,293 people had signed up for the Seacoast Series this year, easily surpassing last year's record of 1,106.
With four races now in the books, Jennifer Emblidge and Bob Wiles are the leading female and male runners. Jennifer has completed 3 of the 4 races that have been run so far, and was the first female Seacoast Series finisher in each of those races. Bob's performance is also impressive, with 2 first place finishes and 1 second in the 3 Seacoast Series races that he has run.
Following Jennifer (3 points) are Emily Block (5), Jennifer Mason (5), Alison St. Jeanos (5), and Miae Jacobs (9). Behind Bob (4 points) are John Mentzer (6), Jim Johnson (11), Chris Ritchie (15), and Robert Glofelty (18).
The age group leaders after 4 races are: (14 and under) Shannon Murdock, Jason Shamesman, (15-19) Shannon Guare, David Turner, (20-29) Emily Block/Alison St.Jeanos, Chris Ritchie, (30-39) Jennifer Emblidge, Bob Wiles, (40-49) Lisa Roeder, Lance Powers, (50-59) Miae Jacobs, Gary Mastin, (60-69) Faye Gagnon, Brian Byrne, (70+) Gary Reuter. Please note that we will not "double up" on the awards this year, so if an age group leader wins an overall award, the age group prize will go to the next leading scorer in that group.
Leading the women's competitive walkers are Maureen Rogers (5), Denise Gagnon (6), Essie Powers (9), Susan Copp-Silva (12), and Judi Delaney-Shirley (13). The men are led by Jay Diener (4), Stephan Mayeux (6), Robert Silva (9), Robert C. Marshall (11), and Ken Taylor (15).
The next race in this year's Seacoast Series is the Saunder's At Rye Harbor 10K on Thursday, August 19th. There is no online registration, and there is the possibility that the race may sell out prior to race day.
All Runners/Walkers should check results after each race and inform the Series of any issues by contacting info@proportsmouth.org

(NOTE: Results include an 8/16 update;
list reflect the first four races.
Look for our next update 8/31.)
NEW FOR 2010:
- We've added a new competitive element to the Series. Runners must still complete 6 of 8 Series races in order to be eligible for the SRRS jacket, but this year at least 2 races must be longer than a 5K. The Series is comprised of five 5Ks, two 10Ks and one 8K/5-Miler.
- Each race in the Seacoast Series will have a competitive walker/racewalking division, and there will be a Seacoast Series award for the first place male and female walkers at the end of the Seacoast Series season. With an increase in competitive walking/racewalking on the seacoast, this recognizes and rewards competitors in this segment.
- Awards will be given to the first place male and female runner in each age group in the Seacoast Series. The age groups will be: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. These new awards recognize the achievements of those who excel against others in their age groups, and acknowledges the increasing competition in different age groups as more and more people start leading more active lifestyles.
Details on all of the new Series' elements, as well as SRRS Rules are noted below.
Each runner/competive walker who enters and completes six of the Series races will receive the SRRS jacket, complete with
the Seacoast Series logo. Runners completing all eight races receive
additional recognition/prizes .
Those Series' participants (with 6 official SRRS finishes)
completing our Bonus Race, The Seacoast Half Marathon, will be eligible for
free entry to the eight 2011 Series races through a raffle.
(4 prizes - 2 female, 2 male).
NOTE: The Seacoast Half Marathon DOES NOT COUNT
as part of the basic 6 of 8 races for the Jacket - it is truly a plus one/bonus race.

GENERAL SRRS RULES/INFORMATION: Please note links to all Series races below as well as registration limits (designated by individual Race Directors for safety, logistics purposes).
Each person who competes in the 2010 SRRS must complete a SRRS entry form. IF YOU HAVE NOT SUBMITTED THIS ENTRY FORM BY AUGUST 1st, YOU WILL NOT QUALIFY FOR A SRRS PRIZE, EVEN IF YOU HAVE RUN THE REQUIRED RACES. (REGISTRATION CLOSED ON AUGUST 1st)
IMPORTANT: The Seacoast Series scoring software compares data between the Seacoast Series registration database and the results' file from each participating race, including first and last names, gender, age, and home town. If there is not a match, you won't get Seacoast Series credit for that race. So please - register for each race in the SRRS using the identical name you use when you register for the Seacoast Series (if you use 'David' on your SRRS entry, don't use 'Dave' on race entries). If your home town changes during the Seacoast Series season, please let us know right away. Don't worry if you have a birthday during the Seacoast Series season - the scoring software accommodates a 1-year age variance. We send updates and reminders to all participants during the Seacoast Series, so please make sure we have your correct email address. When you register for the Seacoast Series, you will receive a confirmation email within a few minutes. If you not receive that email, you either did not input your email address correctly, or you did not properly complete the registration process.
TO EARN THE JACKET OR AN AWARD, YOU MUST COMPLETE 6 OF 8 RACES; TWO MUST EXCEED 5K IN LENGTH; WE OFFER TWO 10Ks, ONE 8K/5-MILER AND FIVE 5Ks.
The Series' scores on this web page should be updated within a week following each SRRS race, so please note this…
It is each runner's responsibility to check their scores for accuracy after each race.
If you are not given credit for a race you believe you should be credited for, please
inform us immediately.
SRRS top awards will be announced and distributed at the final race in the SRRS, the Great Bay 5K.
After the final race in the SRRS, you will be asked again (via the SRRS web site) to check your scores for errors. We will allow 2 weeks for corrections, the results will be finalized and SRRS jacket order will be placed.
The SRRS jacket will be available for pick up at Runner's Alley in Portsmouth (104 Congress St) several weeks after the scores are finalized. The jacket pick-up dates will be announced on the SRRS web page in November.
There is no charge for entering the Series; however individual race entry fees will still apply.
The Rules of the Series:
To qualify for the Participation Award, you MUST:
Enter and compete in at least 6 of the 8 Seacoast Road Race Series races, NEW FOR 2010, including at least 2 exceeding 5K in length (we offer 2 10Ks and 1 8K/5-Miler). You must finish each race and receive an official time for your participation to be counted.
ALSO NEW FOR 2010: All eight SRRS races have added a race walker category to the mix. You will need to check off this category on each individual race application in order to be tracked as a race walker.
Each entrant who earns a Participation Award will receive a custom, Seacoast Road Race Series jacket.
The 3 overall fastest male and female runners in the Series will each receive trophies, in addition to their Seacoast Series jacket. Additionally, the top finishers (male/female) will receive $100.
NEW: The top competitive walkers (male/female) in the Series will receive an award, and the top age group winners (runners only, male/female) will receive awards. The winners will be determined on the basis of how the runners/walkers place in each Series race. To earn an award as a competitive walker, you must register for and compete in at least 6 races (including 2 races longer than 5K) as a walker. If you register for a race as a walker and are found to have run, your Seacoast Series score for that race will be moved to the runners' section. You may compete in some races as a walker and others as a runner and still earn your Seacoast Series jacket, as long as your race total meets/exceeds the minimum requirements. Each race in the Seacoast Road Race Series will have competitive walking/racewalking divisions. Check each races' web site or entry form for details.
We are also adding Seacoast Series age group awards for runners this year. The age groups for the Seacoast Series will be: 14 and under;15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70+. Special awards will go to the top male and female scorers in each age group who have completed the minimum required races.
Scoring: A first-place finish (among Series entrants) in each participating race will earn 1 (one) point; a second place finish will earn 2 (two) points, and so on. The winners will be the runners and competitive walkers with the lowest total score.
The age group winners will be those men/women with the lowest total scores in their age group.
If an entrant completes all 8 races, his/her 6 best finishes will be counted toward the awards, however all race scores will be posted on the Seacoast Road Race Series' web site.
The trophies will be awarded at the Great Bay 5K, the final race in the Series. The Seacoast Series jackets will be ready for pick-up approximately a month after the final race.
