First Night Volunteer Job Descriptions:

Logistics - The backbone of the festival!  Barricade the festival area beginning at noon.  Set up stages, banners, tables and chairs, etc.  This will also include load-in and load-out of sound equipment at the different venues, and more.

Decorations - Assisting with balloon decorations at the various venues.

Sign-Posting - Posting of the "No Parking" notices in the downtown area.  Anyone parked in the festival area that day will be towed. (day before event)

Volunteer Headquarters - Located at the Unitarian Annex, assist with checking volunteers in, handing out sweatshirts, and ensuring all volunteers know where they are going.

House Manager - Oversee the general organization and flow of the front of the house.  There is a full packet of information for your review.  You will receive this when you check in at Volunteer Headquarters on the 31st.  If you are not on the first shift, the previous House Manager will hand over the packet of information.

Stage Manager - Supervise and organize the performances both backstage and on stage.  Act as the emcee to announce each performance.

Button Person (checker and sales) - There will be 2 button checkers at each venue.  One to check that each patron has a button and the other to sell buttons to anyone that does not have one.  The House Manager will inform you of the performance schedule, house capacity, and ensure that you have everything you need.

Usher - The House Manager will give you a brief orientation of the performance schedule, locations of restrooms, exits and any other pertinent information.  Ushers will be responsible the above information and will also escort the audience out of the venue, then immediately check for and clean up any trash.  Seating at all venues is on a first come first serve basis.

Floater/Errand Runner - Report to Volunteer HQ, exact job descriptions will depend on what needs to be done at that time. These people are key volunteers to help fill in areas of need.

Next Day Clean Up - Report to the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce and then you will be assigned to an area that needs to be cleaned up.
